Skiing

Skiing in Scotland is usually possible between December and April. Scotland has five great skiing areas, and we have hotels conveniently located for each of them. We have outlined the highlights of each skiing area below, and suggested those of our hotels which are well situated for each area. To make a booking, please click on the hotel name you are interested in and book from the hotel's own page. For further information on the ski resorts including prices and facilities, please click on the ski centre links. Regularly updated reports on snow conditions can also be found on BBC CEEFAX

The Nevis Range
Fort William
www.nevisrange.co.uk
Access to the slopes is via Scotland's only Mountain Gondola, a breath-taking ascent with an alpine feel. Nevis Range offers the highest skiing in Scotland with modern facitilies and a variety of slopes. Fort William is the nearest town, and we suggest the following hotels:
  • Cruachan Hotel, Fort William
  • Imperial Hotel, Fort William
  • Alexandra Hotel, Fort William
  • Cairngorm Mountain
    by Aviemore
    www.cairngormmountain.com
This is perhaps the best known of Scotland’s ski resorts, with a good range of other sports and activities as well as ski schools, equipment hire and on-mountain restaurant. It also has the recently completed funicular railway. The ski centre is located near Aviemore and we suggest the following hotels
  • Laggan Country House Hotel, Newtonmore
  • Balavil Sports Hotel, Newtonmore
  • Highlander Hotel, Newtonmore
  • Boat Hotel, Boat of Garten
  • Ben Mhor Hotel, Grantown-on-Spey
  • The Lecht
    nr Tomintoul
    www.lecht.co.uk
The Lecht is renowned for a family-friendly approach to skiing, with classes for adults and children, and plenty of fun activities for non-skiers. Although advanced runs are more limited, this resort is sheltered and often stays open when bad weather closes others. The Lecht is situated near Tomintoul, and we suggest the following hotels:
  • Gordon Hotel, Tomintoul
  • Loch Kinord Hotel, Dinnet, by Ballater
  • Nethy Bridge Hotel, Nethy Bridge
  • Glencoe Ski Centre
    Glencoe
    www.ski-glencoe.co.uk
This is one of the most spectacular areas for skiing, with a good selection of nursery slopes as well as gullies for snowboarders and the steepest on-piste run in Scotland The ski centre is located near Glencoe Village, and we suggest the following hotels:
  • Isles of Glencoe Hotel, Glencoe
  • Ballachulish Hotel, Ballachulish
  • Glenshee Ski Centre
    Cairnwell,by Ballater
    www.ski-glenshee.co.uk
Glenshee has the largest lift system in Scotland, with runs spreading over three valleys and four mountains. It offers easy runs for beginners, a good selection of runs for intermediate skiers and the Tiger run for the experienced. The centre is located between Braemar and Blairgowrie and we would suggest:
  • Angus Hotel, Blairgowrie
